White Stone represents, roughly, the 2006-2009 live Hands Down Eugene Lineup and songs played live during that time.
Black Witch is just Moody and Ferguson producing a darker batch of songs to round out the idea of an LP, as they were unhappy with the other songs that would have filled out the entirety of the "White Stone" album idea. Sometimes songs played live still feel like live songs in the studio and Hands Down Eugene, as a recording band, has never seeked to merge the two worlds, preferring to focus on the ability to give each its own focus, energy, and presentation. Moody and Ferguson are also really into dark, weird stuff, so that was a chance to try some of those ideas inside the Hands Down Eugene name, slightly pushing back to the first tracks recorded for Madison, where it was just a couple of friends getting stoned and trying to make weird pop recordings.
