Another uncovered gem from the Hands Down Eugene archives:
Stoned Monument was recorded during a series of Saturdays in 2011. Matt Moody would come to Battle Tapes and we would record to the Tascam 388 like we did as kids with a four-track recorder, bouncing tracks internally, playing multiple instruments together at a time to one mic on one track to maximize performance to track ratios. As such, most of the takes would have Moody or Matt Martin playing drums with Jeremy Ferguson playing percussion next to them shaking a tambourine or shaker into the overhead mic. Candice Ferguson stayed in the control room and operated the controls during all of these initial takes and any time Jeremy was performing. Immediately following would be bass, guitar takes (often DI'ed electric and acoustic), piano, or vocals. Each song was captured and completed as you hear it here within 3 hours, if not more like an hour and a half.
Uncovered and remembered while working on the new Hands Down Eugene album in October 2014, the songs were mixed through a Toft ATB console with an AMS RMX16 reverb to give a little dimension to the drums and some slapback on the vocals.
